Following on from some of the postings on the message board concerning what constitutes a bad company, I’m surprised to see that there was a safety element hinted at.

If anyone at all has any safety related problems with any company they work for, it would be beneficial for all concerned if the company were told about it.
Using UK legislation as an example [and nearly all countries have similar guidelines], here is an extract from the UK HSE website:
“…As an employee you have legal duties, these include:

** Taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or do not do.

** Co-operating with your employer on health and safety

** Correctly using work items provided by your employer, including personal protective equipment, in accordance with training or instructions; and

**Not interfering with or misusing anything provided for your health and safety or welfare.
Your employer must do whatever is reasonably practicable to achieve this……”

Normal routes for reporting tend to vary between company to company but in general; an employee who feels safety is being compromised should initially contact their immediate supervisor [in our case this would normally be the Level 3 running the job].

This route, 99 times out of 100 will provide a solution to the safety problem. If the problem persists, present your case to your line manager [the level 3’s boss], it is very rare that safety concerns go over this level and most of the time the problem is dealt with in an efficient and timely manner.

If you feel that your concerns are not being listened to or acted upon, and you believe them to be legitimately safety related [i.e.: not just a gripe about the way a company do things, or how much money you are owed by them etc] then contact your countries Health and Safety division [or similar], they will guide you through the reporting procedure and consult with you and your employer to mediate a suitable solution.

Industrial Rope Access has an enviable safety record, one reason for this is the willingness of member companies to share safety related information, if you have any concerns at all about your personal safety, or the general safety levels of your company, share it with them!

As we cover so many different countries, it would take up too much space to list your particular countries HSE organisation. Please use the services of this excellent website to find a location nearest to you:
