Leading Rope Access Specialists, AquaTerra Solutions Ltd (AquaTerra) has reached the finals in the 2012 Oil and Gas UK Safety Awards. AquaTerra’s Rope Access Field Engineer, Craig Lonsdale, has been shortlisted for the category ‘Award for Safety Leadership’.The award aims to recognise a highly motivated individual who works tirelessly to ensure their team work in a safe and professional manner at all times. The other finalists in the category are Shona Campbell, Gryphon Area Recovery Project Subsea Project Manager for Maersk Oil and Mark Cowieson, Rig Manager at Archer Ltd.Craig and his team are currently working on the Dunlin Alpha platform in the North Sea carrying out a variety of Inspection, Repair and Maintenance project work scopes within the concrete leg structure of the platform. The confined and potentially hostile environment of concrete legs makes working in them, and any potential emergency response and evacuation, extremely challenging. The project requires a high level of planning and constant attention to detail in order that the team’s skilled and competent technicians can undertake works in these isolated areas of the platform.Given the associated risks of such projects AquaTerra has developed comprehensive management safety systems to ensure all aspects of health and safety are appropriately managed. The Company’s personnel undergo rigorous training and competence assessment before joining experienced leg intervention teams.Complimentary to his management and leadership capabilities Craig Lonsdale has been shortlisted in recognition of his and commitment to maintaining the highest standards for health and safety management and performance. AquaTerra Director, Peter Robinson, acknowledged Craig’s commitment to safety and said: ‘we’re delighted that Craig has been recognised this way. He is a much valued member of the AquaTerra team and has a direct and organised leadership style that is perhaps best characterised by his personal motivation and consistent approach. We’re looking forward to the award ceremony and hope that Craig can take home the title but for now we are delighted to see Craig acknowledged for his commitment, ethics and excellent safety leadership.’The Award Ceremony celebrates other nominations including Safety Representative, Preventative Safety Action, Most Promising Individual, Innovation in Safety and Ideas in Safety. The winner will be announced at the annual awards lunch on the 18th April at the AECC.For more information on the Oil and Gas Safety Awards visit www.oilandgasuk.co.uk/eventsENDS21/3/12Notes to EditorIssued by Katherine Milne.
