FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Total Access (UK) Ltd have a New Trench Rescue Facility at their Eccleshall training centre in conjunction with National GridIn September 2008 Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings were charged with corporate manslaughter following the death of a junior geologist investigating soil conditions in a deep trench when it collapsed and which led to his unfortunate death. Last month the industry saw the first corporate manslaughter sentence when the company was convicted of the offence. Lawyers have warned that this conviction will herald an avalanche of similar cases.The corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007 changed the law. Now a serious offence is committed if an organisation runs its activities in a manner which is grossly negligent. (Reference HR Magazine Sian Harrington 17/02/11)In 2009 Total Access (UK) Ltd were approached by Frank Donaghey from National Grid as there wasa requirement for a trench rescue provision. After discussions it was agreed to embark on a joint venture. Several pilot courses involving both sets of management were run in order to establish the process criteria to satisfy National Grid needs. A combination of this and a 20,000 investment has resulted in a New Trench Rescue Facility at Eccleshall. The course objective is to enable personnel to evacuate an injured or unconscious colleague using harness suspension points and full body stretchers utlilising a Hiab Crane for overhead anchorage from Excavations & Trenches.We have been running courses with a truck mounted Hiab supplied by National Grid Gas since 27th September 2010.
