Martin Castle Ltd is a rope access company that was formed in 2008, primarily to provide working at height solutions and training. Many years have passed and experience gained to widen the breath of not only training, but also rope access services that MCL can now offer to its clients.

Martin Castle has been working in the rope access industry for nearly 20 years. When Martin set up MCL-UK in 2008, the company was primarily offering IRATA Training. IRATA Rope Access Training has always been a key part of the business and the scope of training has expanded to address the demand in other areas closely related to Industrial Rope Access.
In parallel to this development, Martin has branched out to offer a range of consultancy and rope access services.
As these areas have grown, so has our team. Martin overseas all activity within the business whilst remaining an active part of the training team. Martin is also an IRATA assessor. Climbing also plays a large part in Martin’s spare time, as well as caving and trekking.
The IRATA Level 1 is the entry level into the rope access industry.
An IRATA Level 1 technician will be able to perform a range of rope access manoeuvres and have an understanding of the current legislation. An IRATA Level 1 is required to be supervised by an IRATA Level 3 technician.
Level 1 rope access technician is:
Able to perform a range of rope access manoeuvres
Responsible for inspections of all his/her own personal rope access equipment.
Able to assist in rigging and non-standard operations, under supervision of a level 3
Able to undertake a rescue involving descent by him/herself and have knowledge of hauling systems
IRATA Level 2 Rope Training Course
This IRATA rope access course is for candidates who already have an IRATA Level 1 qualification, plus 1,000 hours of work on ropes, one year of experience from your previous Level 1 assessment and a Level 1 certificate that is still in date.
An IRATA Level 2 rope access technician :
is capable of rigging working ropes
can undertake rescues and performing rope access manoeuvres under the supervision of an IRATA Level 3 rope access technician
should have some knowledge of legislation, safety requirements and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access.
IRATA Level 3 Rope Training Course
This IRATA training course is for candidates who already have an IRATA Level 2 qualification, plus 1,000 hours of work on ropes, one year of experience from your previous Level 2 assessment and a Level 2 certificate that is still in date.
An IRATA Level 3 rope access technician :
is capable of site supervision for rope access work projects
is conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation
is able to demonstrate all the skill and knowledge of Levels 1 and 2
has a comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques
holds an appropriate current first aid certificate to show that suitable emergency first aid training has been undertaken
has knowledge of the IRATA certification Scheme
has knowledge of the IRATA general requirements and is familiar with the contents of the IRATA ICOP
This anchor bolt installation course teaches technicians to install BS EN795 Type A anchor bolts and be able to certificate and test. This working at heights course will cover correct installation, testing and certifying of chemically fixed and mechanical anchors in accordance with BS7883 and BS EN795.
Working at Heights Training and Rescue Training
Martin Castle Ltd can provide any working at height training, from basic harness and fall arrest lanyard training to full rescue training for all working environments. In addition, we can also provide tailored training to suit your industry.
As specialists in training for working at heights, Martin Castle Ltd boasts a team of highly qualified and experienced trainers who have worked in a wide variety of sectors. They are therefore well placed to provide you with a knowledgeable and professional training experience.
We can either provide a dedicated trainer based at a secure training facility or we can come to you. Working at height training courses can be tailored to suit any client’s needs. Please note we need a minimum of 4 people per course to run these types of training events.
Confined Space & Difficult Access Course
One day Low/Medium risk Confined Space training course consisting of both theory and practical exercises relating to working in confined spaces. This course will provide delegates with a thorough understanding of confined spaces, associated dangers and the ability to enter, work and leave safely by horizontal and / or vertical entry in line with the Confined Spaces Regulations (1997).
PPE Inspection Course
This course is intended for people who will be inspecting PPE equipment. After successfully completing this course, each candidate will be competent in carrying out thorough examinations of equipment and keep traceable records of inspection as to the requirement of LOLER Regulations
The practical experience is provided in inspecting and assessing the condition of PPE equipment. Candidates will learn the different requirements for metal and textile items. The need for documentation and record keeping are explained as per the regulations.
Candidates should have some knowledge of personal fall protection equipment used in their industry sector.
Emergency Response First Aid Course
Martin Castle now offer a course covering Primary & Secondary care and the use of Automated External Defibrillation, ideal for Industrial Rope Access technicians and Level 3 supervisors.
Primary care teaches candidates how to respond to life threatening emergencies. This element is instructor-lead and is focused on skill knowledge development and realistic practical scenarios to make sure that candidates are fully confident and able to deal with emergency situations.
This element also teaches the use of Automated External Defibrillation (AED).
Secondary care teaches candidates about injuries and illnesses that are not life threatening. This element is instructor-lead and focused on secondary assessment and first aid through skill, knowledge development and realistic practical scenarios to make sure that candidates are fully confident and able to deal with any first aid situations.
